I started seriously writing about my emotions back in October 2020.

I was a few months fresh off a break that didn’t end super well. I was heartbroken and hurt, I needed an outlet for my pain.

Becoming a Reader on Elephant Journal

Before finding Elephant Journal, I was reading a lot of articles on getting over a heartbreak, getting over the guy, and general stories of people’s heartbreak that somehow resonated with me.

I started reading Elephant Journal as a way to relate to people who were feeling the same way I was. I felt seen and heard and understood reading about people’s heartbreak.

It was freeing.

I was able to read two articles per day and somehow, reading so many of people’s articles on heartbreak started to make me feel a little better. Even with how I felt, I was still hurting and needed to release my pain, somehow.

Writing has always been a good outlet for my pain, so I decided to submit my first article with Elephant Journal.

But Wait; What is Elephant Journal?

Before getting into how writing has helped me, you should probably know a little bit more about this publication.

Elephant Journal publishes completely online, has an outstanding staff of editors prepare to support writers with their storytelling journey, and they provide an academy of resources for writers in their Elephant Academy.

Writing With Elephant Journal

What's It Like Having Sexual Anxiety

So back to my writing journey. In October 2020, I submitted my first article to Elephant Journal. You can find my full profile here.

It was called “What it’s Like Having Sexual Anxiety“.

It was the first open and vulnerable piece I had ever written and after that, every plaguing thought that existed in me just started falling out. I started writing things like crazy.

Any sort of anger and pain I felt for the next several months started slowly fading away as Elephant Journal became my diary. I started to heal.

What Happened After I Started Writing for Elephant Journal

It was crazy. Every single thought that existed in my head was written out and submitted to Elephant Journal. Not only was I releasing what was hurting me, but I was also able to connect with others near and far through my thoughts and experiences.

And in the process of clearing out all of these demons and monsters roaming through my mind, I was able to make space for other more productive and motivating thoughts.

Because I had let taking these thoughts, fleshed them out, and shared them with the world, I was able to make space for other projects that have only been ideas.

More importantly, it had cured my long-term writer’s block and lack of motivation to write a novel like I had always dreamed of.

A month later, I started writing my first novel, The Lost Pleiad.

My creativity went up 1,000% and started writing more and creating more articles, graphics, websites, and other design projects than I have before.

Writing and have a mind clear of any other thoughts that might be consuming my energy has been the culprit for curing my writer’s block
